Reliable Information for Happier, Healthier Lives

Kidney disease affects more than 31 million Americans.  My grandmother was one of them.  The leading causes of kidney disease are diabetes and high blood pressure.  My grandmother had both.

Sadly, as in my grandmother’s case, by the time many people with kidney disease are diagnosed, the disease is already well advanced.  Please get yourself tested regularly, so that your doctor can get a good sense of what is "normal" for you; especially if you are diabetic or have high blood pressure.

The most effective way to know how your kidneys are functioning is to take a blood test known as a GFR (glomerular filtration rate).  However, the easiest way to detect the earliest warning signs of kidney disease is to have your urine tested. This test is called an ACR, and checks for your ratio of Albumin to Creatinine.

By donating to the American Kidney Fund, you can help to educate others on how to prevent kidney disease, and ensure that patients have access to quality medical care that includes dialysis, medication, education, and even transplants, if necessary.

Yes. You can literally help save thousands of lives, and improve the quality of life for many others.

Just go to the American Kidney Fund website.  On the far right, you

will see this:

On behalf of millions of Americans affected with this disease, I thank you for your support of the American Kidney Fund.

GIVING BACK

“Giving back” is a great way to feel good about yourself, and lift your spirits while doing good things for others.

There are many worthy causes that need help providing their services.  No matter how much government funding they may receive, if any; there’s typically a shortage of volunteers and funds for one thing or another.

Whatever it is you think the world needs, there’s most likely someone doing their best to provide it.  Find them, and offer your assistance in whatever way is comfortable for you: volunteer, donate funds, advocate!  The more of your personal energy you put into it, the better you will feel.

When you do good: you feel good!
